Project Information:
DAC-2015-03 is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the Murweh Shire, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Charleville, Queensland. Registered in July 2015, the project originally covered an expansive area of nearly 20,800 hectares, though a variation in July 2016 removed specific parcels of land from the project area. The site sits within the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area characterized by flat to undulating plains widely utilized for grazing cattle and sheep.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) (Native Forest from Managed Regrowth) Methodology Determination 2013. This specific methodology is designed for land that has been comprehensively cleared for pastoral use in the past. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the project proponent must cease the mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth, effectively allowing native vegetation to regenerate into forest cover. This differs slightly from Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) projects, as NFMR specifically targets land with a history of clearing for agriculture that would otherwise be re-cleared to maintain pasture.
Environmentally, the region is classified as semi-arid, typically receiving variable rainfall averaging between 450mm and 500mm annually. The soil composition in this part of the Murweh Shire is predominantly red earth (Kandosols) and sandy loams, which support the regeneration of Acacia aneura (Mulga) and other native woodlands when grazing pressure is managed and clearing is halted.
The project proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd (DAC), was a boutique carbon farming developer founded by local graziers and consultants. In July 2021, DAC was acquired by GreenCollar, one of Australia's largest environmental markets investors. This acquisition integrated the DAC-2015-03 project into GreenCollar's broader portfolio, ensuring continued management under a large-scale aggregator.
