Lakeview Carbon Sequestration Project 1 (Revoked)

Project Information:

Lakeview Carbon Sequestration Project 1 (Revoked) was a soil carbon project located approximately 5km south of the township of Uralla in the New England region of New South Wales. Registered in September 2015, the project operated on a 526-hectare area managed by proponents Frederick and Lesley Banks.

The project fell under the "Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems" methodology (2014 determination). This method generates carbon credits by altering agricultural practices, such as pasture cropping, rotational grazing, or managing stocking density, to increase the amount of organic carbon stored in the soil. The Lakeview project specifically utilized multi-species pasture and cover cropping to enhance soil health and sequestration rates.

The Uralla district is characterized by a temperate climate with reliable, summer-dominant rainfall (typically averaging around 750-800mm annually). The region supports extensive fine-wool sheep and cattle grazing on soils that vary from granite-derived sandy loams to fertile basalt clays.

On March 28, 2025, the project was revoked under section 30 of the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) Rule. Section 30 revocations generally occur when a proponent voluntarily requests for the project declaration to be revoked, often to transition the land to a newer methodology or due to changes in land management strategy.
