Yarraweyah (Revoked)

Project Information:
Yarraweyah (Revoked) was an Environmental planting project located near Borden in the Shire of Gnowangerup, approximately 100km northeast of Albany in Western Australia. It was registered in July 2015 and covered 99.35ha.
Environmental planting projects involve establishing permanent plantings of a mix of native trees at a density capable of reaching forest cover, generally at least 200 stems per hectare, on land that was previously cleared and used for agriculture for at least five years.
The Gnowangerup region is well known for broadacre farming, including sheep grazing and cereal cropping. The area experiences a Mediterranean to semi-arid climate with moderate winter rainfall, and the soils are typically sandy loams and lateritic gravelly duplex soils.
Before being revoked in September 2017 under section 33 of the CFI Act, the project successfully planted over 100 native tree and shrub species using hand-collected local seeds to restore native habitat on an old farming property. It filled a strategic conservation gap in the Gondwana Link within the highly biodiverse Fitz-Stirling area. The revegetation efforts provided vital food and shelter for local wildlife, with the project's proponent, Regenerate Australia Ltd (formerly Carbon Positive Australia), famously capturing camera trap footage of native honey possums feeding on wattle flowers on the property.
