Narran/Yarramanbar Regeneration Project (Revoked)

ERF101250

Project Information:

Narran/Yarramanbar Regeneration Project (Revoked) was a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon project located approximately 90km south of Charleville in South West Queensland. Registered in August 2015, the project covered a substantial area of 41,249 hectares within the Mulga Lands bioregion. This region is traditionally used for sheep and cattle grazing and is characterized by a semi-arid climate with average annual rainfall of approximately 450-500mm. The landscape typically features red earth soils supporting Mulga (Acacia aneura) woodlands and Poplar Box communities.

The project operated under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology, which involves regenerating native forests on land where vegetation has been suppressed for at least 10 years. Standard activities for such projects include ceasing mechanical clearing and managing the timing and extent of grazing to allow natural seed sources (rootstock and lignotubers) to regenerate into permanent forest.

Notably, this specific project instance (ERF101250) was revoked on September 15, 2016. However, this appears to be an administrative restructure rather than a cancellation of activity; a new project titled "Narran Yarramanbar Regeneration Project" (ERF105136) was registered shortly after in November 2016. The project was managed by the proponents, Christopher and Julia Leeds, in partnership with the carbon service provider Select Carbon (now a subsidiary of Shell). The names "Narran" and "Yarramanbar" refer to the pastoral stations on which the project is situated, located near the headwaters of the Narran River.
