Glen Ailee Station Native Forest Protection Project
EOP100705
Project Information:
Glen Ailee Station Native Forest Protection Project is an Avoided Deforestation project located near the rural locality of Bobadah, approximately 115km south of Cobar in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in August 2014, the project secures a 1,980-hectare area of native forest that was historically designated for clearing.
The project operates under the Avoided Deforestation methodology, which is distinct because it requires the landholder to hold a clearing consent issued prior to 1 July 2010. The core activity involves surrendering the right to clear this land for agriculture (typically cropping or grazing) and instead managing the forest to maintain carbon stores. This prevents the significant emissions that would have resulted from removing the vegetation and disturbing the soil.
The Bobadah region is characterised by a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 350-400mm. The landscape is dominated by rangeland grazing properties, featuring vegetation such as Bimble Box, White Cypress Pine, and Mallee on red earth soils. Historical records indicate the property has been associated with grazing activities since the early 20th century. The proponent, Flowenol Mngt Pty. Ltd., has successfully managed multiple carbon abatement contracts for this project, delivering over 15,000 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the Commonwealth between 2017 and 2020.
