Glen Ailee Station Native Forest Protection Project

Project Information:
Glen Ailee Station Native Forest Protection Project is an Avoided Deforestation project located approximately 30km south-east of the small locality of Nymagee and roughly 100km south-west of Nyngan in central New South Wales. Registered in August 2014, the project covers a significant area of 1,980 hectares within the Bogan Shire local government area.
The region is characterized by the semi-arid climate of the Darling Riverine Plains bioregion, typically receiving around 350mm to 400mm of annual rainfall. The landscape supports grazing operations on red loam and clay soils, often hosting native woodlands of box, pine, and gum. Avoided Deforestation projects under the Carbon Farming Initiative prevent the clearing of native forest on land that holds a valid clearing permit issued before 1 July 2010. By forfeiting the right to clear this land for agriculture (such as cropping or pasture), the project generates carbon credits equivalent to the emissions that would have been released if the forest had been removed.
An interesting facet of this property is its involvement in multiple carbon activities; in addition to this avoided deforestation project, the station hosts the "Glen Ailee/Oklahoma Aggregation," an Induced Regeneration project registered later in 2015. Corporate disclosures indicate that Kilter Rural, an asset manager specializing in water and agriculture, has purchased and retired Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) specifically from the Glen Ailee Station Native Forest Protection Project to offset their own operational emissions.
