Nullawarra Station #2 Native Forest Protection Project

Project Information:
Nullawarra Station #2 Native Forest Protection Project is an avoided deforestation project located approximately 35km southwest of Cobar in New South Wales. It was registered in June 2014 and covers 10,413.77ha.
Avoided deforestation projects involve protecting native forests from being cleared for agricultural use, specifically on land where a legal clearing permit was issued before July 1, 2010. By forfeiting the right to clear, the project prevents greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon stock is determined by applying allometric equations to tree measurements collected through regular biomass surveys.
The Cobar area is known for extensive sheep and cattle grazing operations, alongside historical and active mining. The area is considered semi-arid with low rainfall, and soils are generally red earths, clay, and sandy loams.
This project has undergone several variations, including an update to its methodology in 2015 and a participant name change in October 2021. Terra Carbon Pty Limited, a key participant, holds a fixed delivery carbon abatement contract with the Australian Government to deliver over 462,000 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) from this site. Additionally, corporate buyers such as the University of Melbourne have purchased and retired ACCUs from this specific project to help meet their institutional sustainability goals.
