Oakvale Native Forest Protection Project
EOP100635
Project Information:
Oakvale Native Forest Protection Project is an avoided deforestation project located in the Bogan Shire, approximately 100km northwest of Nyngan in New South Wales. It was registered in May 2014 and covers 13,953.55 ha.
Avoided deforestation projects avoid emissions by protecting native forests from being deforested (cleared) and preventing the land from being converted into an agricultural system. This standard methodology specifically requires that a valid clearing permit was issued for the land prior to 1 July 2010.
The Bogan Shire region is well known for agricultural production, primarily supporting sheep and cattle grazing alongside cropping such as wheat. The environment is considered semi-arid, experiencing highly variable average annual rainfall of approximately 430mm to 445mm. Soils in this relatively flat regional landscape are predominantly classified as red kandosols and red earths.
This project is operated by proponent Domenico Grieco, with additional participation from the carbon service provider Climate Friendly Pty Ltd. An interesting fact about this project is that it transitioned its method on 30 June 2015, moving from the original 2013 methodology to the updated Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative - Avoided Deforestation 1.1) Methodology Determination 2015. Furthermore, Oakvale secured a carbon abatement contract (CAC130427) in April 2015, which was successfully completed on 23 September 2022.
