Kulki Carbon Farming Project

Project Information:
Kulki Carbon Farming Project is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located on Kulki Station at 1780 Kulki Road, near Bollon in southern Queensland. It was registered in July 2014 and covers an active project area of 3,609.72 hectares.
The Native Forest from Managed Regrowth methodology involves establishing permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources on land that has previously experienced at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use. Standard requirements for this project type include ceasing any mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth and strictly managing the timing and extent of grazing to allow native vegetation to recover.
The Bollon and broader Balonne region is predominantly used for large-scale pastoral operations, specifically sheep, goat, and cattle grazing. The area generally experiences a semi-arid climate with variable rainfall, and features a mix of red-brown earths and cracking clay soils typical of southern Queensland grazing lands.
Originally established by Devine Agribusiness Carbon, the vendors initially developed a sustainable model across the Kulki and North Kulki properties that allowed for both continued livestock grazing and carbon farming. The project and property were later transferred to Pastoral Partners Australia in December 2023. Pastoral Partners continues to run an active livestock operation alongside the carbon project. Furthermore, they have recently partnered with Bush Heritage Australia to establish a biodiversity baseline using the Accounting for Nature methodology, aiming to track and improve long-term ecological health and landscape recovery across the property.
